Naomi Thompson J.D., Fernando Guzman Ph.D
Naomi Thompson is Associate Vice President for the Office of Community, Equity and Diversity and Chief Diversity Officer at URI. She serves as a member of the president’s executive team and leads efforts to integrate diversity, equity, and comity into the University’s core mission, vision, and strategy.
Fernando Guzman is Director, Diverse Faculty and Staff Recruitment and Retention at URI. He has been a Diversity consultant for Champlain College; he was Executive Director of Multicultural Engineering Program at the Colorado School of Mines; he was the Assistant Provost for Multicultural Faculty Recruitment and Retention at the University of Denver. He has created groundbreaking strategies to recruit faculty and staff members from historically underrepresented populations.
Workshop Title: Landing the Perfect Job, While Keeping it Real!!
Workshop Description: Securing the right job drives many 21st century students to enter college. This highly interactive workshop benefits anyone looking for a job. Participants will learn how to strike a balance between maintaining a sense of ones own multiple intersecting identities while accessing mainstream employment. This session will provide effective strategies to prepare for the job search process; including resume writing ; dressing for success; interview preparation; post-interview follow-up, and negotiation tips. The goal of this workshop is for students to leave with a greater sense of confidence and strategies compete in the job market.
